The Pub Story
The function of the public house is to provide a place for the community to interact, a place where they can feel comfortable, in a setting that's inclusive and familiar.
Traditional public houses are most often found nestled in among other homes, in the communities in which they aim to serve. Public houses have their origins in Inns, where travelers could find accommodation, food and drink, a sort of home away from home. Eventually, alehouses grew out of domestic homes due to the fact that alewives, traditionally the brewers of beer, would put a green bush on top of a pole outside the home to signify that the brew was ready. These alehouses quickly became what we would now consider public houses, as folks would use them as a place to come together to socialize, discuss politics and arrange mutual help within their community.
